COLORADO CITY AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD is a gut-wrenching journey into a heart of darkness - a journey into a closed and secretive society that some have called "America's Taliban."
Situated in one of the most remote corners of America's southwest desert, the dusty little town of Colorado City, Arizona is home
In one of the most remote corners of America's Southwest desert sits the little dusty town of Colorado City, Ariz., home to the largest concentration of polygamists on this continent - one man, multiple wives and often dozens of children. It is a town where thousands of lives are controlled from cradle to grave by an all-powerful polygamist prophet, a place where critics say young girls are routinely forced to marry older, already-married , where crimes like statuatory rape and welfare fraud are said to be the norm.
For more than a quarter of a century, journalist Mike Watkiss, who is a descendent of polygamists himself, has interviewed polygamist leaders, confronted polygamits criminals, and told the intimate stories of polygamy's crimes.
